Metro Vancouver retail vacancy has fallen below 1% in some suburbs while downtown sits below 3%, according to Re/Max's Fall 2026 report, as high construction and financing costs push B.C. investors toward established neighbourhood plazas and industrial properties. The Bank of Canada raised its benchmark interest rate by 0.25 percentage points to 2.5 per cent on October 28, 2026—its first hike in three years—citing geopolitical-driven energy inflation that threatens to spread across the economy.
